rainy day

It's not so much of a commotion when it rains in Singapore, but for that almost a whole morning of rain in this Australian state-- it is somewhat a phenomena which got so many people twitting about it.

Got up really early in the morning wishing I could sleep in but I promised Suds to see him at 7am so that he could head to the city for a seminar. Turned out that he thought I was going to see him 7 in the evening which was such a pity. Could have gone scot-free and slept in and not worry about him thinking I don't love him enough because I go back on my word.

Well at least I got a Macdonalds breakfast treat hehehe. :)

Sortof sent a German guy to his engineering block when I got to school. Pays to bring an umbrella today, even though it may be a lousy spoilt one.

We talked about Australia...and because of the interview I had yesterday, I talked about how I like Australia, but find the place racist. German guy pointed out that don't Singaporeans too, hate their foreigners? It got me thinking then, I wanted to cover my own backside, hypocritical or not.

I truly do not mind the foreigners in Singapore. I always believe that the government would have the smarts to choose the best-qualified person and that the lousy ones would have been moved back to their country. However I believe the difference between the Australian and Singaporean government would be that in Singapore, the government gives the rice bowl to a foreigner, when their own citizens could be given that same bowl instead. That is why Singapore citizens resent foreigners. In Australia, the government protects their own people and finds them jobs, making corporations pay higher taxes should they wish to hire someone not of their own. The Australians have little reason thus, to hate foreigners.

The Australian government tends to take in foreign migrants of Anglo-Celtic descent, or in other words white people.

That is about all I can think of, without having research anything to back up my statements. Nonetheless the impressions I had from the interview pretty much stuck in me. The only person who has been offering me balance came in the form of suds, who is pretty anti-refugee, who's like a Gillard himself.

Sigh.
