here's presenting to you,
built to last by Melee! haha this reminds me of jacq again. ;P

at 01:22 is what i thought of, when debbie blogged that she wanted to take pottery classes with KC. -_-"

LOVE THE LYRICS~!
I've looked for love in stranger places,
But never found someone like you.
Someone whose smile makes me feel I've been holding back,
And now there's nothing I can't do.

'Cause this is real, and this is good.
It warms the inside just like it should,
But most of all, most of all, it's built to last.

All of our friends saw from the start.
So why didn't we believe it too?
Whoa yeah, now look where we are.
You're in my heart now.
And there's no escaping it for you.

OKaaaaay~~~~
Pastor Tan preached on Values, which are those that are stated in the Bible, and which he believes will enable us to be better people who are "built to last"

The values are
1. Loyalty
2. Commitment
3. Respect
4. Accountability
5. Family
6. Love
7. Faithfulness
8. Hard work
9. Integrity
10. Generousity

**i only arrived for service when he was talking about 8. Hard work

On the value no. 8, Hard Work, 2 Thess 3:10 of the Bible says: "...If anyone will not work, neither shall he eat." Also, Eph 4:28 "Let him who steal no longer, but rather let him labour, working with his hands what is good, that he may have something to give him who has need."

This shows that everyone has to work hard in order to achieve something they have set their sights upon. Christians are also commanded to study hard like any other people, and that it is not solely upon "christian membership card" that they could tyco-lly win anything.

I guess thats where some people tend to backslide when they get unfavourable academic results. They lost faith that God is miracle-working, when they themselves may not have worked hard enough to prove themselves worthy of their reward. However the Bible has instructed this simply and clearly, No Work= No Food.

On the value no.9 Integrity (or truthfulness), John 8:44 says "You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was the murderer from the beginning and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it."

At first when i read this, i thought, how come my father is the devil!??!

haha. anyway this was when Jesus was talking to the Jews who were trying to pick on him and seeking to kill him. He was trying to say that because they're trying to kill him, they are carrying out the purpose of their father, who is the Devil, and their father is not God, whom they claim.

likewise, remember that whatever you do in your daily tasks, it reflects on what kind of father you have, whether you're of the Devil or God. I admit, this takes alot of thinking, coz for some stuff, you really cant differentiate whether it is right or wrong. Like, is it right to be angry with somebody for telling you a joke that is not meant to be funny, but hurting? Do you let it slip, or do you think twice of the friendship?

Are friends meant for edifying (=uplifting) or are they meant for your own advantage?

Mr Omar said this, "Lust is when something is done at THE OTHER's expense. Love is when something is done at YOUR OWN expense."

when you call somebody, do you meant to get rid of your own boredoom? or get something out of it?

or do you mean to bless the other person by relieving the other of their stress and sorrows?

THINK.

sometimes when anybody calls you, THINK.

OK, this doesnt seem too much about integrity. just something i felt personally.

Value no. 10 is Generousity, which is something i am weak at.
Acts 20:35 "I have shown you in every way, by labouring like this, that you must support the weak. And remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He said, 'It is more blessed to give than to receive.'"

The best way to break envy is to be a Giver. i have often been a person who's always envious of somebody. more often than not, i am jealous, not envious. the difference is these two words is that jealousy holds resentment, wherelse the other isnt.

when im jealous, i am horrible. i think that at times of jealous, if i am faced with a Truth mirror, i will see a green monster staring back. i am undeniably easily jealous.

this is a weakness many have picked up to use against me, as they like to compare me with someone i would be *inferior* to. it's quite sad actually, to know that i am being placed in such a manipulation scheme yet helpless to do anything about it myself.

SO, as iterated before:
The best way to break envy is to be a Giver

HOW?! you tell me HOW!! hahaha.

firstly, i guess you have to bless the person whom you're envious of. thank God that the person has set the standards for you to follow, thank God that you're acquainted with people on higher par than you. thank God that you both are individuals with unique personalities, with different capabilites and talents.

bless the person with all your heart and be grateful.. phew not easy~

secondly, bless other people else. for when you give, you break the chains of that which is greed and covetousness. what value you have placed on this certain object will then be lessened. "..things of earth will grow strangely dim"

1Tim 6:6,8 "Now godliness with contentment is great gain.
...And having food and clothing, with these we shall be content."

truly, contentment is not easy. HOWEVER, godliness with contentment is another ball game together. contentment is accepting, albeit with a little grudge. but contentment with godliness is like accepting with thanks and a grateful heart.

for vday, which sucked for me, i should be content (that vday is any other day and should not hold high expectations) but to be content with godliness, i should be grateful that i have friends to celebrate with me, and whom brought forth presents and goodwill when i have come barehanded.

OK, to sum this whole loooooong thing up, Pastor Tan revealed that these values, were not actually pulled out from the sky just for the entertainment of us church-goers, but that they were in fact stated in the Bible, in the whole chapter of Exodus 20.

Lastly, having values like these are not mainly in itself vanity-seeking, but the values of having values allows us to be Visible (having an identity), and to Attract people to us, to Lead and Unite, Establish a stand, and present a Standard for others to follow. so those acronyms are actually VALUES.

haha. YAY!
if you've read till here, give yourself a pat on your back! :D
or perhaps you'll be like ~I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT~ then it's ok haha.

*awaiting debbie to send me picts, esp flip eyeball want* [quite obvious hint]
