third day as kindergarten teacher at PAP community foundation
today, i found out that some students has been calling me 'mee siam' behind my back and giggling over this nickname they invented for me. why mee siam? coz i told them to call me Miss Yang. i could have been addressed as Miss Yeo, but that name conjures up fearful memories.
Which brings me to another matter, i bought my first ARMPIT HAIR-TWEEZERS yesterday! thanks to the help of miss woon. :D it costs $5.90 from watsons. i know everybody will be rejoicing now. BLAH. well, i haven't get around to plucking them yet... i hope my armpits will NOT turn out flabby, white and has black thick stumbs over it like miss yeo's. *shudders*
today work was T-I-R-I-N-G. still haven't got around to snap out of the spelling mode.
teaching is by far the most tiring job i have ever taken and is the least paid one too. i have to work every working day from 8am to 5pm, with break at 12 to 1pm. i earn $40 each day. they dont count by hour. yep, so that's like VERY little money if you were to do your math. joleen is earning like twice of what i earn per hour.
Read the story Flower Gardern to the K1 children and made them spell words like Flower, Garden, Girl, Gate, Good, etc coz they are supposed to learn the alphabet G today. some of the students are really weak at writing and spelling. they dont even have spelling tests!! i remembered that my K1 was filled with numerous spelling tests...i always got the words Principal and Principle mixed up. SEE! what chim words i learnt!
the children gets more adorable each day.. as i teach them, i sortof pinned some hope on them. it's like:
Will you go home and remember what i taught you?
When you get to primary school, please don't learn bad words and things from your other friends ok?
Will you go to a junior college when you grow up?
Would you smoke?
Would you be popular among your friends?
Would you be the kind who has multiple boyfriends?
Would you study hard and make me proud?
as i teach, i cant help but to imagine what they would be like when they grow up. i do wish i can see into their future and prepare them for what they may face, but it's too difficult. their faces are so beautifully painted with innocence and curiocity.
"teacher teacher! my leg pain pain!" one came up to me holding the bruise on the finger.
"TEACHER! my stomache pain!" another came up, with a louder whining voice.
soon, it seems like all of them got a pain or a bruise or a scratch on their bodies matched with many stories to tell.
"this one is my abang's cat (gives a biting expression) me want...!", Idfan the handsome but naughtiest boy in class.
"teacher! yesterday i go picnic with all my cousins!", says the girl (cant remember name) who told me that yesterday, and today. -__-" think she will say that again tomorrow.
think i may be bringing them to the zoo someday! :D haha cant wait. but im not too sure yet.
hope i can snap some nice pictures of them to keep. im only scared that they would go home and report to their parents and they would be unhappy. the principal seems to make these parents sound like unreasonable monsters. :S
tomorrow work at 8am followed by waitress job. hope i can keep up!
